Connotations of Colour within France?

I'm writing an essay on the uses of colour in Emilie Zola's Therese Raquin for English. I don't do French at all, and never have done, obviously the connotations of colour will play a substantial role within my essay, and I was just wandering whether any colours have different connotations?
